I finally got the chance to sit down and view the entire anime in the last few months.
I love the bumbling-idiot-who-is-really-the-only-person-who-can-save-the-world shtick, and Abel Nightroad definitely fits the bill!
He plays the clumsy silly fool, constantly ends up with only four dinars left in his wallet, hates to kill anyone --oh, and he's a secret agent priest employed by the Vatican. He is a Crusnik (one of four), a vampire who feeds off other vampires called Methuselah.
So, he's Vash the Stampede (from Trigun) combined Alucard (from Hellsing). Intelligent individual playing bumbling idiot plus eldridge abomination, with a guilty conscious and a heart for people.
As far as heroes go, he's incredibly endearing.
Personally, I loved all of the characters employed by the AX Agency: Father Tres Iqus ("Gunslinger"), Sister Kate Scott ("Iron Maiden"), Father Hugue de Watteau ("Sword Dancer"), Sister Noëlle Bor ("Mistress"), Father Leon García de Asturias ("Dandelion"), Father Vaclav Havel ("Know Faith"), Father William Walter Wordsworth ("Professor"), and, of course, Father Abel Nightroad ("Crusnik"). Personally, I found that the different specialties and code-names helped keep the whole group a heck of a lot more interesting, though sometimes it was hard to catch details --first names for some, last names for others.

- Evangeline
(Abel Nightroad/OC [Eva])
Even Father Abel Nightroad isn't quite sure what his old friend is, but he still hopes she comes bearing good news. Eva has known Abel since they were both children, so why has she skulked in the shadows of his life for centuries and why has she chosen to make herself known now? Could Cain be at fault?
- The Crusnik's Kiss
(N/A; just OOC fluff!)
When his nanomachines act up and turn Father Abel Nightroad into a kissing fiend, will any of the AX members escape? What strange side-effects have been caused by the Crusnik's kiss --and will they be permanent?
