Musical Inclinations...
In all things I work on, I always use music. Sometimes, the use is pretty easy to guess --like in "Hungover", one of my biggest musical influences was "For Your Entertainment" by Adam Lambert, to which the pair also danced-- and sometimes, the influences are hidden or yet to be seen --like the influence of "Last Legal Drug" by Korn has yet to become apparent in "Heaven's Only Haven". I encourage you to check out some of the songs if you've never heard them. The worst thing that could happen is that you could hate it, and you just might end up loving it.
Boy bands are a guilty pleasure of mine. I was a 90s kid, so it is accurate to say that I grew up listening to bands like O-Town, Backstreet Boys, and N'SYNC.
That all said, I don't limit myself to the 90s boy bands, nor do I listen to all of the bands from that decade.
I may not own up to it all the time, but I listen to bands like Backstreet Boys, O-Town, and Big Time Rush frequently while I write. The pop rhythms just seem to help, for some weird reason...

I've always been a very eclectic listener, though, and I listen to more than just the beat and the rhythm. I listen to the lyrics. A lot of people listen to music as they work but don't listen for comprehension. I listen to music to push my thinking along a certain line of thought.
It always amuses me to see what other people listen to, so I thought I'd give you all a taste of what songs I listen to when I write certain things. Some of them will be complete no-brainers: the titles are often plays off the song title or parts of the lyrics. Others might surprise you...

When I write a strip-sequence or a dance sequence for any story, I carefully select the song I will use, then I listen to it on repeat until the entire scene is complete. Portions of the text tend to match up to the rhythm of parts of the song.
When I write a story dedicated to a single song, I may listen to that song upwards of fifty times straight and still not be done with the piece!

More on my creative process --including songs that played key roles-- will find its way out of me, given the time.

I keep a single playlist on my media players and also on my iPod that chunks all of the music I've used for stories I've written or am currently writing. I tend to listen to it when I'm working on new stories or replying to reviews.

Music that inspired...
- As You Wish - (Pairing: Saya/Haji)
Based on Characters from: "Blood +" [anime] as directed by Junichi Fujisaku; character designs by Chizu Hashii
~"Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me" (from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show")
If anyone were to ask me... well, I wouldn't own up to it... but it's true. Sorry to spoil anyone's image of this story, haha. - Eyes On Me - (Pairing: Aine/Sakuya)
Based on Characters from: "Kaikan Phrase" by Mayu Shinjo
~"Eyes On Me" by Faye Wong
Okay, okay. It's a song-fic --a lousy one. Please pretend this fan-fiction doesn't exist. Instead, listen to the song! - Moonlight- (Pairing: Zero Kirryu/Toga Yagari)
Based on the Characters from: "Vampire Knight" by Hino Matsuri
~"Domino" by Jessie J
It's a perfect fit. The sensuality of the moonlight meets a catchy melody that won't let you down ;) - The Girl Who Loved Kyouya Ootori - (Pairing: Kyouya Ootori/ OC [Kisten])
Based on Characters from: "Ouran High School Host Club" by Hatori Bisco
~"Dakishimeru Hoka ni Nani ga Dekirundarou?" by Λucifer
I was vaguely obsessed with "Kaikan Phrase" (by Mayu Shinjo) --the manga, not the anime-- when I wrote this... so I searched out the music that went with the anime... There's actually a reference in the text to it!
~"Nocturne in G Minor" composed by Frédéric Chopin
One of the characters plays it on the piano... - Wake Up Call - (Pairing: Castiel/Dean Winchester)
Based on the Characters from: "Supernatural" created by Eric Kripke
~"Wake Up Call" by Maroon 5
Obviously, it named the story... Can't say it really did much more with the original inspiration, though... - Your Eyes - (Pairing: OC [Jaqui]/Spencer Reid)

~"Your Eyes" (from "RENT")
It named the story before the story had much of a start. As a consequence, it greatly shaped the story. - A Voice Like Sex - (Pairing: Ichigo Kurosaki/Uryū Ishida)

Based on the Characters from: "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" (© 1995 Sunrise)
~"Funhouse" by P!nk
No, Trowa isn't an "evil clown" but I do have coulrophobia... The catchy tune and sorta similar subject matter help me connect... - The Angel Alchemist - (Pairing: N/A so far...)
Based on Characters from: "Fullmetal Alchemist" by Hiromu Arakawa
