Colloquially in the US, this series is known simply as Gundam Wing.
The general message of the series promotes peace, even though we spend most of our time focused on the antics of five young teen revolutionaries that tend to be more dysfunctional than functional at times: Trowa Barton, Quatra Winner, Wufei Chang, Heero Yuy, and Duo Maxwell.
There's a lot of corruption to be had, a total crap-sack world (especially on certain colonies), a few genuine pacifists, a group of scientists who conspire to create the gundams, and, of course, the rag-tag group of gundam pilots (the above mentioned teen revolutionaries). Over all, the series can be very dark but it certainly has its moments of humor.
Those of us old enough to remember when it was originally aired in the US might have to admit that our first anime crushes came from this series. I always had a bit of a thing for Duo and Heero, but Trowa has really grown on me in recent years.

- Insanity is Relative
(Heero Yuy/Duo Maxwell)
After the war, they lost track of him. The entire world swears he's dead, but Duo knows better. He knows that Heero is the man that Death wouldn't accept. One phone call completely changes his life –and possibly his perception of reality. Now he has to fix one formerly perfect soldier, and he won't trust anyone else with the task, because failure isn't an option. - The Sad Clown
(Trowa Barton/OC [Ecstasy Marx])
E takes a chance and gets to know the sad clown that helped her get over her phobia.
